What to Expect at Your First Two Chiropractic Visits
Your First Visit
At Mark O’Brien Chiropractic, we welcome clients from across Townsville and surrounding areas, with monthly appointments also available in Hughenden.
During your first visit, we’ll ask you to complete a brief health history form to provide essential background and personal details. This helps us tailor your care and better understand any underlying concerns. Your initial consultation will include:
- A basic orientation and discussion about treatment possibilities.
- A comprehensive physical examination.
- An order for X-rays if clinically necessary (these are to be arranged and submitted prior to your second visit).
- A gentle adjustment using a safe, low-force technique.
Our aim is to make your first appointment clear, informative and comfortable. To learn more or to book, contact our friendly team on

Your Second Visit
Your second visit allows us to build on your initial consultation and provide a more complete picture of your spinal health. We’ll begin by reviewing your examination results, including any X-rays, alongside an explanatory DVD that covers the basics of spinal function and how chiropractic care works.
After this, you’ll receive a detailed explanation of our findings and how they relate to your symptoms and wellbeing. A range of care options will be outlined, with time to discuss your goals and preferences. You’ll also be adjusted again, using a technique suited to your individual needs and agreed upon in consultation with your chiropractor.
We’ll clearly explain any likely outcomes, risks or next steps so you’re confident in moving forward with your care plan.
Why Two Visits?
At Mark O’Brien Chiropractic, your care begins with a two-visit approach designed to be clear, thorough and tailored to your needs. With over 25 years of experience, we’ve found this method offers the best balance between clinical insight and patient comfort.
We schedule your initial care across two visits because:
- It reduces the length of the first visit, allowing us to focus on understanding your health history and conducting a detailed examination without rushing
- It gives us time to correlate findings, including reviewing your X-rays and developing a personalised care plan with professional insight
- It prevents information overload, making it easier for you to absorb important details about your condition, options and next steps
This process helps ensure you feel informed, supported and confident before committing to ongoing care.
